Here at Bath Abbey, we have a team of over 300 volunteers! We are so grateful to them as they support us in simply everything from helping welcome our visitors to ringing the bells for services. Volunteering could be a great way to meet new people while allowing you to make the most of your interests and existing skills - it also can be very satisfying and a lot of fun. Just ask one of our many enthusiastic and lively volunteers whose ages range from 18 to over 80.

We are currently recruiting for the following volunteers:
Young people and their families are at the heart of our ministry at Bath Abbey. We are looking for volunteers to help make our young people of all ages feel welcome, guiding them through activities created by our Youth and Families Minister. The groups we offer are:
· Abbey Kids: Sunday School for primary school age children and teenage helpers.
· Anchor: youth group for Girls Choir.
· Crypt Club: youth clubs for Boys Choir and Melody Makers.
· Culture Club: youth group for teenagers.

Would you like to support the future of music at Bath Abbey? We are currently looking for volunteers to help out with welcoming, accompanying and safeguarding the children in the boys’ and girls’ choirs.

Events Volunteers at Bath Abbey support a wide range of events in the Abbey, most often including concerts presented by local groups such as Bath Choral Society. Volunteers give us a hand with preparing and delivering concerts and events at the Abbey, outside of regular visiting hours.

Floor Tour Guides support the Abbey on the Abbey floor, leading regular highlights tours of the Abbey for all ticket holders. Operating in collaboration with the Visitor Experience Assistants, you’ll independently lead small to moderate groups around the Abbey floor, storytelling and giving information about our most exciting features.
Your presence will provide more added-value activities for our visitors and allow the Visitor Experience Team to offer more frequent Tower Tours: a crowd favourite that often sell-out.

Learning volunteers make students of all ages feel welcome, guiding them through activities created by our Learning Officer on a range of topics involving the Abbey’s history, including its Anglo Saxon, Medieval, Tudor and Georgian past.
You’ll be based in and around our brand new Learning Room on weekdays, and as part of this new team you’ll be shaping its future for years to come.

Stewards support the Abbey on the Abbey floor and in the Discovery Centre. Operating alongside our Chaplains, you’ll be the primary point of contact for visitors during their visit. By being on hand to answer their questions about orientation, service times, the history of the Abbey, or how to book onto a Tower Tour, you’ll help our visitors get the most out of their time at the Abbey.

Visitor Research Volunteers support the work of Bath Abbey by collecting information about our visitors and gather feedback on their experience. This helps us better understand who our visitors are, why they come and how we can improve our visitor experience.
This role is based in the Abbey and focuses on engaging with visitors at the end of their visit. Volunteers are provided with a visitor survey, either on paper or an iPad, and actively encourage visitors to complete it. Full training and ongoing support will be provided.

Welcomers support the Abbey outside our front doors, where visitors arrive hoping to use the church for worship, reflection, or exploration as tourists. Operating alongside our Visitor Experience Assistant staff, you’ll welcome people to the Abbey, advising them about their options for visiting, or guiding them to the Chapels to pray. Your positivity and support will help our visitors get the most out of their time at the Abbey.
