Join acclaimed Bath Artists’ Studios artist Ben Hughes for a mindful sketching session inside Bath Abbey: a gentle morning of wellbeing, stillness, and quiet spiritual contemplation in one of Bath’s most awe-inspiring spaces.
We’ll meet outside the Abbey for a short welcome and grounding chat, then step inside to sketch in the Abbey itself (not the learning room). This is not a pressured “learn to draw” class. It’s a slow, restorative practice of looking: moving at your own pace, finding a corner that calls to you, and drawing what you notice – arches, stone textures, stained glass light, shadows, carved faces, patterns – letting the building guide your attention.
Ben will be drawing alongside you, while also circulating to offer optional encouragement, technique tips, and gentle guidance for anyone who wants it. The focus is on presence over performance – a simple, calming creative ritual that supports mental clarity, relaxation, and connection.
Materials: drawing only – no paint and no splashy inks (pencils, graphite, coloured pencils).
Afterwards, you’re invited to optionally meet for a drink or bite to eat nearby to reflect and chat; weather permitting, you can also continue sketching outside together.
Bring a sketchbook and your favourite simple tools. Leave with a steadier mind, a softer nervous system, and the feeling of having spent two hours doing something timeless: making quiet marks in a sacred space.
